The mission of the Academic Advising Program at Macon State College is to assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans that are compatible with changing career aspirations and leading to academic success, graduation, and facilitating job placement.
Academic Advising Policy
All students are strongly encouraged to meet with with advisors to assist with course selection and academic planning. Many academic programs require specific sequencing in order to reach degree completion in a timely manner. Also, students frequently benefit from guidance in exploring potential majors and coordinating career goals with education opportunities or study aboard programs.
Students who have not declared majors are advised through the TRAC Center - Office of Academic Advising. All entering degree seeking students are advised through the TRAC Center - Office of Academic Advising and have mandatory advising for their first semester. All students with Learning Support requirements are advised through the TRAC Center - Office of Academic Advising and have mandatory advising until all learning support requirements are satisfied.
Students with a declared major are advised through their specific academic department to ensure they receive focused advising in their discipline of choice and have access to a trained professional they can consult regarding institutional requirements and resources.
Students are reminded that they are ultimately responsible for their own academic program and course load. An advisor can only advise, and should never replace individual student responsibility.
